Cross Country  at St John Fisher

Tuesday 6th June

Over 70 of our children took part in this event along with pupils from St Paulinus. It was very windy and showery weather and it was really pleasing to see the effort put in by our athletes. Also great to see former pupils of St Patrick's as helpers and officials. We have lots of talented pupils who came in medal positions and were rightly proud of their achievements.

National Cross Country Finals

Saturday 25th March 2017 Prestwold Hall

Congratulations to Isabel Toher and Phoebe Butterworth who made it to the National Cross Country Finals in Loughbrough, Leicestershire.

Isabel competed in the Year 5 race and Phoebe in the Year 6 race.  Both girls gave an outstanding performance competing against the best cross country runners in the country - many of whom run on a weekly basis for local or county cross country clubs.

Isabel came an outstanding 35th out of over 230 runners and her team - West Yorkshire came first in the event.  Phoebe had a fantastic run and finished in the top half of the field.  Congratulations to both of you!

The girls race can be viewed at the following link:

Our year 4 and year 5 teams represented Kirklees with Phoebe Butterworth entering the year 6 race. Kiera Voyce had replaced Isabelle Butterworth who was injured in year 5 from the Kirklees qualifier.

Hundreds of spectators and approx 400 runners took part in the six races in lovely sunshine on a hilly course in front of the Tudor Hall in the country park. Our girls had practiced hard at lunchtimes and it paid off as we represented St Patrick's and Kirklees with great effort and determination.

Our year 4 team came 2nd, a fantastic achievement. Well done girls!

Remarkably two of our girls from our school have been invited to represent West Yorkshire in the National Championships on March 25th.

Isabel Toher came 5th in the year 5 race overtaking many runners on the uphill climb in a thrilling finish and Phoebe Butterworth finished 10th improving on her performance from  last year by over 40 places.

Congratulations to them both and all of our other runners who tried so hard and finished with smiling faces. Their success was just reward for commitment and grit, two qualities that will take you far in life.

West Yorkshire Winter School Games - 12th March.

We had a fantastic day at the West Yorkshire School Games finals at Leeds Beckett University! St Patrick's had 12 athletes in total that took part in the Year 4 boys race, Year 4 girls race and Year 5 boys race.  All of our athletes participated with a fantastic attitude and thoroughly enjoyed the events of the day.

We started our day at the opening ceremony and met  Team GB athletes Ashleigh Long (Gymnastics, Tumbling World Champion) and Rebekah Tyler (Weight Lifting Commonwealth Champion).

It was stressed at the opening ceremony that all qualifying athletes should be extremely proud of themselves for reaching the finals - they were the top 120 runners in each category for the whole of West Yorkshire (Kirklees, Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale and Wakefield) which is a huge achievement in itself!  For the first time the top 10 runners from Year 5 and 6 qualified for the National Finals.

Year 4 Boys - an amazing team effort!

Fionn - an incredible 11th place!  Ethan, Joseph D, Joseph W and Ned performed incredibly well and exceeded all expectations!  Well done!

Year 4 Girls - true grit and determination!

Isabel T - an amazing 11th place!  Isabelle, Lily and Elise all beat their placings from last year and performed incredibly well in tough and muddy conditions!

Year 5 boys - strong team effort!

Luke, Brock and Aaron performed very well in a highly competitive race involving many club runners!  Well done for conquering the tough hill climb at the very end!

In the driving rain Isobel Toher finished 6th in the year 5 race, Phoebe Butterworth came 14th in the year 6 race and Grace Sheard of year 4 finished 18th.

Our year 5 girls came 3rd overall and were awarded a bronze medal(Isabelle Butterworth, Emily Jones, Elise Hirst and Isobel Toher) and therefore qualify for the West Yorkshire Finals .Our year 4 girls (Grace Sheard, Isabelle Oates, Eudora Romero and Millie-Rose Ward)  who came 4th in their team event also qualify.

The year 5 boys tried extremely hard and came 9th as a team (Fionn Illand-Hurd, Ned Walker, Jack Hartley and Joe Woods.) Our only year 4 boy to take part was Tiernan Toher  who came 34th as an individual entrant.  Amy Hirst and Matilda Butterworth gave their absolute best in the year 6 race.

A huge thank you to all parents/grandparents for their support(encouraging the children to do their best, transporting them to and from the event and getting drenched in the process!
