St Patrick's Catholic Primary Academy

History

At St Patrick’s we aim to deliver a history curriculum that is accessible to all and that will ignite children’s curiosity about the past in Britain and the wider world. Through finding out about how and why the world, our country, culture and local community have developed over time, we aim to support the children’s understanding in how the past influences the present. A carefully planned progression map is structured in a way that allows for children to make links between current and previous learning. Teachers use the long term plans for history to make comparisons between historical periods previously taught, developing children’s chronological knowledge and understanding from the Stone Age to present day.

We want children to be curious to know more about the past and to have the skills required to explore their own interests. History lessons focus on developing historical knowledge and we offer opportunities for the curriculum to be enriched throughout the year with historical visits, visitors and events held in school.

The children were given an opportunity to showcase their learning in History. We were very proud of how well they articulated their knowledge for their parents and school community.
