ROCK YOUR SOCKS! - Tuesday 21st March

15 March 2023 (by Emily Gott (emily.gott))

Good afternoon,
On Tuesday 21st March, it is WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY. This special day is held each year to raise awareness and signify the uniqueness of the 21st chromosome that causes the condition.

We will be helping to advocate for the rights, inclusion and well being of people with Down syndrome by wearing odd socks on this day. Our children are naturally aware of the differences they encounter at school, in their neighbourhood, and in other everyday relationships. In recognising WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY we will support our children to understand and appreciate what makes us "different," enabling them to to ask questions, to see and celebrate 'difference' in themselves as well as in those around them.

The children are invited to wear their brightest, most colourful socks – and, of course, mismatched ones. If anyone asks about them, they can tell people that we are wearing our socks to raise awareness of Down’s Syndrome.

Throughout the day the children will be encouraged to value the 'different' in all of us, leading the way to a kinder world in which the difference in everyone is celebrated and embraced.

Thank you for your support
