School Games Platinum Mark Award

6 June 2023 (by Emily Gott (emily.gott))

Good afternoon,
We are delighted to announce that we, St Patrick's Catholic Primary Academy, have achieved the School Games PLATINUM Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
We are the very first school in North Kirklees to be awarded with thew Platinum Status and we are over the moon!
Our sporting achievements this year include:
  • Record levels of participation in both intra and inter competitions across both KS1 and KS2
  • More intra-school competitions developed this year ensuring ALL pupils have participated in a competition.
  • A record number of Sports Leaders leading physical activity in the school playground
  • High quality PE lessons taught by both our highly skilled staff and our brilliant Sports Coaches from Professional Sports Coaching - Coach Becky and Coach Angus.
  • Record numbers of children participating in after school clubs from EYFS-Year 6, run by our Sports Coaches and supported by our Sports Leaders.
  • Increase in participation levels in a competition for girls only events, promoting mass participation
With a record number of pupils competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.  All of these events are tracked on our school sports page on the school website: https://www.stpatricksbirstall.co.uk/ourschool/our-curriculum-1/physical-education
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
A special thanks to:
  • All our pupils for all their hard work and dedication
  • All our 29 Sport Leaders in Year 5 for all hard work leading physical activity every dinnertime ensuring 60 minutes exercise for pupils every day
  • Our supportive staff and Sports Coaches who engage all their children in fun and physically demanding PE lessons and give up their own time to take children to sporting events after school and out of term-time
  • All our incredible parents who are extremely supportive in transporting and supporting at all our competitions - we simply cannot do it without you!
I'm so incredibly proud!
